Canton hosts Salem in talent-loaded track & field dual meets

The Salem girls track & field team improved to 2-1 in the KLAA with Tuesday’s win over Canton.
Running, jumping, throwing and vaulting under warm, abundant sunshine for the first time this spring, Salem’s girls and Canton’s boys track & field teams put on a show Tuesday afternoon at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park’s east turf stadium.
The Rocks girls dominated the Cobras, 97-40, while the Canton boys won comfortably, 85-52, over their campus neighbor.
Salem’s girls victory clinched the P-CEP championship for the Rocks, who defeated Plymouth in a dual meet last week. The Canton-Plymouth meet was postponed due to nasty weather.
Nathan Gilmour and Adam Dicken were both double-winners for the Cobras, while Salem’s Babafemi Ayangbayi ruled both hurdles events.
Julia Montgomery piled up plenty of points for Salem’s girls team, winning the 100-meter hurdles, placing second in the high jump and running on two winning relay teams.
Rosa Brody won the 1,600 and 3,200 for the Cobras.
