Canton High School’s new Cobra mascot makes winning debut

Canton High School’s new cobra mascot is undefeated in his appearances at the school’s sporting events.
The 6-foot-plus, always-smiling reptile made its much-anticipated debut during Thursday’s Canton-vs.-Salem boys soccer match — and the new mascot proved to be a magnet for young fans.
“Right when we arrived tonight, little kids ran up to the mascot to give it a hug and say, ‘Hi’,” said Canton senior McKenzy Wilson, a member of her school’s student council who enjoyed the task of escorting the giant walking cobra around the playing field.
‘Fang’tastic debut

“Everybody really seems to like it — I haven’t seen any kids get scared or anything — which is nice,” Wilson added.
Wilson said the process for choosing a name for the new mascot has not yet been determined; however, she said it will probably be decided by a vote of Canton students in the very near future.
Although the mascot’s presence probably didn’t impact the play on the field, the Cobras slithered through the Rocks, 2-1, to claim the 2025 P-CEP championship.
