Canton Culver’s hosts fundraiser for family of slain manager

Sarah Carroll, 20, was killed Aug. 30 by her ex-boyfriend.
Throughout her eight months as a manager at Canton’s Ford Road Culver’s, Sarah Carroll was a day-brightener for the hundreds of guests who visited the restaurant daily.
“Sarah lit up the room, she had that kind of personality,” said Lance Sesi, the restaurant’s owner. “We have a tight-knit team of employees here — people who have been working together for a long time — but they all welcomed Sarah in with open arms.
“Every guest who has visited us today (Tuesday) said they were here because of Sarah.”
Tragedy strikes
Carroll was killed Aug. 30 in Westland by her ex-boyfriend as part of a murder-suicide.

In addition to working at Culver’s, Carroll was taking classes at Schoolcraft College with dreams of becoming a physician’s assistant.
“When a former co-worker of Sarah’s contacted our general manager with the horrible news, nobody here believed it at first,” Sesi said. “Even when we heard on the news that a Sarah Carroll was killed near where Sarah lived, we still didn’t want to believe it. It’s a common name, so we were hoping against hope that it wasn’t her.
“Sarah had such a delightful sense of humor. Everyone who knew her, loved her.”
Here’s how to help
To assist Carroll’s family with the funeral expenses, the Canton Culver’s (45275 Ford Road) is taking a percentage of all meals they serve Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and donating the proceeds to the Carroll family.
Each member of Culver’s staff is also wearing a purple ribbon, which is the color for domestic violence awareness.
“We have serve nights for PTA’s and sports teams all the time, but this is the first time we’ve done something like this for an employee,” Sesi said. “Sarah was a special person.”
