BLUE AVALANCHE: Rocks topple Chiefs to win ‘Park’ LAX title

Mileena Cotter maneuvers around three Canton players before scoring a wrap-around goal Monday night.
Salem’s emphatic 17-5 girls lacrosse victory over Canton Monday night was sandwiched by goals from — who else? — Mileena Cotter, the state’s reigning Miss Lacrosse who rarely misses the net.
Cotter, who is headed to Syracuse University in the fall to play her favorite sport for the Orange, lasered home the game’s first goal in the opening minute and the last net-finder with 10 seconds left.
In between, she scored six more goals, including one wrap-around beauty when she was shadowed by three Chiefs.

The victory — combined with an 11-8 triumph over Plymouth on April 26 — earned Salem the coveted Plymouth-Canton Educational Park championship.
Two titles in one night
The Rocks also clinched first place in the KLAA East Division, which will propel them into the KLAA crossover title game against West Division champ Hartland on May 13. The Eagles handed Salem a 22-8 setback on April 22.

Three Rocks tallied two goals — Emrie Gay, Bella Papazoglou and Kaitlyn Courtney — while Natalie Lorenz, Danika Denhof and Cate Martin stuffed the net with one goal each.
The game was played with a running clock after Cotter’ goal with 5:23 left in the third quarter pushed Salem’s lead to 12-2.
Canton’s offense was paced by Jordan Wetmore’s pair of goals.
Chiefs’ balanced attack
Hannah Ahmad, who scored the Chiefs’ first goal, Addison Porzuczek and Mariana Downs registered one goal a piece for the hosts.
Canton goal-keeper Avery James made three slick point-blank saves.
The Chiefs cap their KLAA schedule Friday against Plymouth.
