AHA! New Indian eatery featuring biryani coming to Canton
The close-to-three-year run of the Samosa Factory on Ford Road in Canton has ended, but all is not lost for lovers of Indian-themed meals.
SocialHouseNews.com has learned Aha! Biryanis will be opening a restaurant at the former Samosa Factory site (44993 Ford Road), although its is not clear when a grand opening will take place.
In its simplest form, biryani is an Indian dish made with highly seasoned rice and meat, fish, or vegetables.
Delicious dish
However, according to thespruceeats.com, there’s a lot more that goes into the meal than meets the eye.
“Biryani takes time and practice to make but is worth every bit of the effort,” the website explained. “Long-grained rice (like basmati) flavored with fragrant spices such as saffron and layered with lamb, chicken, fish, or vegetables and a thick gravy.
“The dish is then covered, its lid secured with dough, and then the biryani is cooked over a low flame. This is definitely a special occasion dish.”
Many variations
The website explained that most food historians believe the dish’s origins began in Persia as a “rustic rice-and-meat dish” and then was gradually imported to India.
“Biryani’s many, many variations depend on where the dish is based,” the site noted. “Some differences are subtle while others are distinguished by added or substituted ingredients.”
The Samosa Factory — samosas are consist of fried pyramids stuffed with a variety of foods — was adjacent to the Tropical Smoothie Cafe, which still appears to be doing robust business.
