Sugar’d satisfies your sweet tooth, launches feel-good initiative

Sarah Debs’ recently-opened Canton business Sugar’d satisfies sweet tooths — and is focused on a feel-good community-enhancement initiative.

A treat for your eyes and your sweet tooth, Canton’s six-month-old high-end boutique bakery Sugar’d is sweet on multiple levels.

Specializing in custom cakes, edible artistry, and one-of-a-kind party experiences where guests can decorate their own cakes or cupcakes through workshops, Sugar’d owner Sarah Debs, a resident of Canton, is passionate about helping single mothers like herself earn extra income.

“I am developing a social impact initiative called Sugar’D Second Shift,” Debs shared. “The goal is to provide hands-on training, mentorship, and workforce re-entry support to single moms in need.

“The focus is on job skills in baking, barista work, customer service, and POS/register training.  The intention is to offer flexible hours, childcare options, and stipends in the future with the right partnerships or grant funding.

Impacting the community

Sugard is located at 43347 Joy Road in Canton

“As a single mom myself, I was fortunate to have my education to fall back on, but I was still completely unprepared for the reality of raising a child alone, without childcare, without guidance, and without a roadmap.

“This initiative is my way of giving back to the community.  Through Sugar’D Second Shift, I’m not just offering job training — I’m creating opportunity, building confidence, and helping single moms rewrite their stories. It’s my way of turning struggle into strength and success into something I can share.”

A certified nurse midwife, Debs has spent close to a decade supporting women through some of life’s most intimate and transformative moments.

“That same nurturing spirit, paired with my creative passion, eventually led me down a different path—one filled with a lot of buttercream.”

Since becoming a master cake decorator — her passion for this specialized skill was born from watching related shows on The Food Network several years ago — Debs has hosted cake-decorating parties for everything from bridal showers to Father’s Day dad-kids get-togethers, to name a few.

Eye-pleasing hosting space

With the mantra “Turning sugar into art”, Debs has transformed the property at 43347 Joy Road in Canton into a tastefully-decorated, eye-pleasing space that is warm and welcoming.

She is relentless in making sure her new venture is a success, at times working 20-hour days.

“One piece of advice I’d give to anyone pursuing entrepreneurship is this: don’t give up,” she asserted. “Success in entrepreneurship comes from unwavering commitment, hard work, and passion.

“There will be long nights, setbacks, sacrifices, and in my case, a lot of tears, but if you believe in your vision and stay committed, you will find a way.

“The road may be tough, but the reward of building something truly yours is worth every step.”
